Position Title: Senior Project Manager, Nuclear Scaling Initiative
Reports to : Co-chairs and Executive Management Team, Nuclear Scaling Initiative
Type: Full-time
Location: Flexible within Europe or East Coast U.S.; Washington D.C. or London preferred
ABOUT THE NUCLEAR SCALING INITIATIVE
The Nuclear Scaling Initiative (NSI) is dedicated to catalyzing and building a new nuclear ecosystem that enables the global scaling of safe and secure nuclear energy to 50+ GW year by the 2030s. This is a monumental challenge, equating to a ten-fold increase over the current deployment rate. Doing so will enable nuclear energy to become a globally relevant solution to challenges of climate change, energy security and economic development.
NSI is a strategic collaboration between Clean Air Task Force (CATF), the EFI Foundation
(EFI) and the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), formed in September 2024. NSI builds upon deep complementarities of the three organizations and reflects a shared vision for the importance of nuclear energy in a decarbonized future. NSI is an outgrowth from the jointly developed Global Playbook for Nuclear Energy Development in Embarking Countries, outlining pathways for the responsible, sustainable, and effective development of new nuclear energy projects. Launched at COP28 to much acclaim, the playbook has been influential in driving progress around nuclear energy and has helped lay the foundation for NSI’s work.
NSI will:
- Facilitate the formation of a large, organized, pooled demand “orderbook” for nuclear energy plants, with an initial focus on the U.S. and Central and Eastern Europe
- Advocate for the harmonization of regulatory and other policies across international borders to facilitate a truly global industry
- Promote financial risk sharing among private parties and governments to reduce first-mover disadvantages
- Help to develop a roadmap to expand and sustain global workforces to meet increased demand
- Encourage the embedding of non-proliferation and security as essential criteria for a nuclear energy scale-up
